Chief Innovation Officer

Matt is the CINO and co-founder of HeroWear. An engineer and hands-on innovator, Matt is a co-inventor of HeroWear’s core technology, and oversees the development and testing of our product line.

Prior to HeroWear, Matt completed scientific research on augmenting human movement and understanding the interaction between humans and wearable devices at Vanderbilt University’s Center for Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology. Combined with his experience as a software engineer for Caterpillar Inc., Matt’s research built his expertise in a diverse range of specialties, including: scientific evaluation of human movement using metabolics, electromyography, and motion analysis; design and test engineering of wearable assistive devices; sensor integration and control system development for closed-loop robotic systems; and design and manufacturing techniques that range from mechanical computer-aided design (CAD), 3D printing and machining, to thermoforming, laser cutting, and sewing.

Matt has published multiple peer-reviewed scientific publications and has presented at both domestic and international conferences.

Matt received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University.
